QH8G & QHQG i7-6400T CPUs on Aliexpress.com

I will have a video relating to these cpus coming to the channel very soon, but essentially these are the two most popular engo samples being sold on aliexpress, and one goes for around $100 currently, the other goes for around $170, there is the QHQJ as well which goes for around $140 and is somewhere in between, but quickly briefing the advantages and disadvantages of these:

QH8G - A0 stepping (early production run), comes clocked in at 2.2ghz, with a turbo on single core to 2.6ghz, turbos on all cores to 2.4ghz, so for 24/7 overclocking set the multi to 24 and cache ratio i set that to 19. On average won't overclock as high as later samples, I managed to get 3.55ghz stable out of mine at 1.39 volts, the voltage maybe high but the power consumption was around 60 watts, which is a lot less than my 7700k at 5.1ghz, and temps were very low reaching 60 max at 30 ambient without a delid on the QH8G.
The iGPU is disabled, and only supports up to a max of pcie 2.0, though native nvme m.2 support works fine, though speeds of your samsung pro 960 for example may be limited by the 2.0 connection (FYI).
Also the motherboard compatibility and bios situation is very tricky here, There is a list of Korean boards that may be most likely to work, my z170 pro4 from asrock with the bios at that site - http://hwtips.tistory.com/1608 works completely fine (with kingston memory).

QHQG - The Q0 stepping of the same processor. officially it is clocked at 2.2ghz, but apparently has a higher multi of 28, with 26 on all cores, will generally overclock higher than the a0 version and will work on more motherboards and bios reiterations, also has the igpu enabled and has pcie 3.0 support.  Though it costs more.

QHQJ - The Q0 Stepping version with a clock of only 1.6ghz however, all cores at 2ghz I believe, and is $30 cheaper than the QHQG version, so you will need to give it a higher bclk in order to get similar clocks.

Versions like QH8E and QH8E (extremely early) I do not recommend at all.

Hope this thread helps out anyone looking for some juicy information.
Happy New Year's Everyone, here is to an awesome 2017!

Interesting stuff. Right up my alley in terms of oddball experimental builds. Might have to give this a shot.

I've always wondered about those engineering samples.  The low clock speed a spotty compatibility always disuaded me.

Damn $50, yeah that will be from people who got them but can't get them working, at least I know it works fine with the z170 pro4 ;D

  • First time on the forum but i did some looking and found that you can get the i7 6400t cheaper on a chinese website called Taobao if you want to save some money (QH8G $84), you will probably need to use google translate to understand what is going on, hope this helped any.

  • I own an i5 4460 and a GTX 1070. Is it worth the upgrade from i5 4460 to the QH8G/i7 6400? I mainly use my rig for 1440p gaming.

as you are going from LGA 1150 to 1151, upgrading to a 4790/k or 4770/k should cost about the same.

I have a QH8G on an Asrock z170 pro4s. For some reason, everytime I bump up blck, the core multiplier goes down to around 15. not sure why this is happening. I tried on different BIOS version from 2.73, 3.00 and the latest 7.30 but all have the same out come. not sure what I am doing wrong. Also a weird thing is only one ram slot works now. I used this same board with a 6700k with all ram slots filled and it works.

I had that issue as well with my xeon x3460 and I realized that I had intel turbo boost turned off and the cpu refused to go higher than the default speed.
I am new to OC with this gen so I can be wrong, anyway, hope you can set up that OC

Would not recommend, "QH8F is rumored not to work with any consumer motherboard" says the aforementioned video. Also, you probably want a Z170 board, since you're dealing with some pretty low clock speeds.  I would prefer the i3 over the QH8F for a budget build that you want. Alternatively, go for a Xeon X5650 (with a 4GHz O/C) or a Pentium G4560. I would definitely recommend the Pentium for that budget build.
  • Does the QHQJ work well with DDR3? And how about a Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 DDR3 motherboard?
  • Anyone with any more updates on the QH8G or any links to tutorials really confused at the moment.
  • Does the QHQJ work well with DDR3? And how about a Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 DDR3 motherboard?
I know this is a little late but my $80.50 AliExpress QH8F (A0 stepping, therefore lower binning, only PCIe 2.0 & no iGPU) reached 3.7 GHz (=160.87 MHz*23) @1.36V Prime stable on that board with Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600 MHz CL9 oc'd to 1930 MHz CL10-10-10. I initially bought an ASRock Z170M Extreme4 for ES OC but it just bootlooped with the special "korean" bios after BCLK adjustments. So I installed this BIOS in order to boot with QH8F https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9JWNXk_n_FmR1BUWHJIYVhySGs/view on my GA-Z170-HD3 DDR3 which was listed here: https://forums.overclockers.ru/viewtopic.php?p=14378504#p14378504. Maybe this helps. My 6400 which was on the Gigabyte earlier is now on the ASRock @4.6 GHz | 1.33V | 2932 MHz CL13-14-14. However the Gigabyte could never go over 169.4 MHz BCLK on my 6400 which might be needed for QHQG or especially QHQJ.
  • Sorry for my English... How is QH8G? i have one. A can't decide build or not. I'll buy Z170+ddr4 RAM, or buy other mobo... Help me..
    Thanks.
